A couple was burnt to death as a fire broke out at their house in city’s Shahazipara area under Bakalia thana on Sunday morning.
The victims were identified as Sayed Ahmad, 35, and his wife Rina Akter, 28.Fire service control room sources said the fire broke out at the house of one Sayed Ahmad around 3.50 am and it soon engulfed three houses.
Sayed Ahmad and Rina suffered serious burn injuries and were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where physicians declared them dead around 5 am, said Nayek Hamid of CMCH police outpost.
On receiving information four firefighting units from different fire service stations rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze at around 5 am.
Atish Chakma, senior station officer of Khalurghat fire service station said the fire originated from a cooking oven kept in the kitchen of the house.
