A couple was attacked and critically injured when they tried to stop miscreants from forcibly grabbing their land in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila this morning, the police said.
The injured are Haradhan Chandra Roy (38) and his wife Smriti Rani Roy (30), reports our local correspondent quoting Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station.
Around 10 miscreants, led by one Ramzan Ali of the area, allegedly started ploughing a piece of Haradhan’s land this morning in an attempt to grab it illegally, the OC said quoting Haradhan.
When he and his wife tried to stop them, the miscreants stabbed them in the head, back, arms and legs. Locals rescued the injured couple and admitted them at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, the police official added.
However, when contacted by our correspondent, Ramzan Ali denied grabbing the couple’s land.
“We were ploughing our piece of land when the couple tried to stop us. At one stage, a clash ensued in which they were hurt,” Ramjan said.
The family members of the two injured were preparing to file a case in this regard, the officer-in-charge said.
