Countrywide protests continue for second day

Protests and various demonstrations against the ongoing rape incidents, sexual harassment and violence against women continued across the country for the second consecutive day on Tuesday demanding justice.
The recent gang-rape incidents at Sylhet MC College and housewife molestation in Begumganj of Noakhali is but a slap in the face of pride for so-called civilization, and sign of end of ethics and morality. If appropriate steps are not taken without delay against the criminals regardless of their identities, anarchy and lawlessness may shutout future of future generations.
Protesting the rape incidents, thousands of people, including students and socio-cultural activists staged demonstrations on the roads and social networking sites to exhibit their strong protests demanding exemplary punishment to the rapists.
Women however, blacked out their FB profile photos condemning the incidents of violence against women. Some male FB users also joined the protest programme.
In the capital city, people joined a mass gathering protesting the horrific incident of Noakhali housewife’s molestation that has gone viral on social media.
Hundreds of protesters, mainly leaders and activists of left-leaning student organisations, including Chhatra Union, Socialist Student Front and citizens, took positions at Shahbagh intersection under the banner of “Bangladesh for Anti-Rapists” carrying posters and chanting slogans to raise conscious of people to the peak.

When protesters started marching towards the Prime Minister’s office with black flags from Shahbagh and TSC, Police barred the procession the moment they reached the intersection in front of Hotel Intercontinental on the Minto Road.
At that time police created barricades with barbed fencing to block the passage of the protesters.
At Uttara, hundreds of people blocked the city’s Uttara’s House Building area protesting the rape incidents.
Protesters demanded punishment to the culprits and resignation of those persons for their failure to stop the incidents of rape and oppression against women across the country.
In Rajshahi, the students staged demonstrations blocking roads near the city’s G-point in Sahebbazar area around 11am and formed a human chain.
Protesters called for speedy trial of the rape cases and demanded to make future of the rapists dark once for all.
In Sylhet, students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) formed a human chain in front of its main gate around 11am.
The students also demanded the quick action against the rapists.
In Chuadanga, students, teachers, journalists and civil society members, formed a human chain in front of Shaheed Minar of Chuadanga Government College in the morning protesting the rising rape incidents across the country.
In Satkhira, a human chain was formed at Shaheed Alauddin Chattar in the district town around 10:30am demanding punishment to the rapists.
In Noakhali, a human chain formed in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district on Tuesday demanded justice and imprisoning of rape and repression against the females across the country.
Meanwhile, protest programmes were also held in Rangpur, Gazipur, Thakurgaon, Moulvibazar and others districts.
