Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said the progress of the country could be easily made if it’s all women folks are linked to the mainstream of the development.
“Bangladesh can make progress easily as its half of the women population are connected with mainstream of development,” Speaker said this on Monday while addressing a seminar marking the International Women Day 2018, at East West University in the city.
The women are the source of merit, she said, adding if the merit of women could be utilized properly the mission to empower women will be a success.
“Women empowerment is now visible…the women are now advancing towards advancement in all the professions, so women empowerment is necessary for progressing the country as well as the nation,” said the Speaker. Dr Shirin Sharmin said: “The financial empowerment of the women is crucial and women empowerment will be successful if the women can participate in the decision making at their respective sectors.”
She said: Bangladesh is now a role model of women development as well as empowerment as women friendly act and policy has been adopted by the incumbent government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
East West University Vice-Chancellor Professor MM Shahidul Hasan gave the welcome address.
Chaired by Board of Trustees Chairman of the East West University Dr Mohammad Farasudddin, the Senior Research Fellow Dr Naznin Ahmed, Dr Fahmida Khatun and Pro-VC Professor Dr Fakhrul Alam also spoke on the occasion.
