Syed Shemul Parvez :
The most runways of the country’s airports are unprotected. The border walls of Cox’s Bazar, Barisal, Rajshahi and Syedpur airports have been broken, but the authorities have not paid any attention to it to obstruct entrance of cattle and unwanted people therein to. As a result, airlines have to transport passengers with risk.
The concerned people have been urged to punish the officials responsible for it.
On October 30, a plane collided with a cow on the runway of Cox’s Bazar Airport. Hundreds of Biman Bangladesh Airlines passengers survived the catastrophe due to the skill of the pilot.
However, two cows died sadly. At this the question of security at the airport has come to the spot light. On the spot the ordinary people and cattle were seen to enter regularly through the broken boundary wall of Cox’s Bazar Airport, which is likely to become an international airport.
The situation is similar at Barisal Airport, where unwanted people and animals regularly enter. The asphalt surface of the runway has eroded. Such information in the report of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism caught the eyes.
Not only that, people and cattle frequently enter Rajshahi and Syedpur airports by crossing the border wall.
The fox infestation in the runway of Jessore airport has increased.
In this issue, when media went to the office of Habib-or Rahman, the Caretaker Engineer (in-Charge) of the airports, to find out what measures are being taken to ensure the flight safety of the airports, he couldn’t be reached as the gate was blocked. He even did not respond to repeated attempts.
Air Commodore (Retd.) Iqbal Hossain, former Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), said if a person stays in one place for a long time, he may resort to corruption. He will form a syndicate to establish a kingdom in that place. He said it is very difficult for one person to take care of 6 airports. If one sees one or two airports, he can spend full time there. So it is better to share the responsibility with others, he added.
CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Mofidur Rahman said, how did the cow go there? There are many such questions. We have to address these issues.
I believe we can make a breakthrough quickly, he said.
