Country’s HIV patients now stand at 3,674

The number of identified HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) affected patients in the country now stands at 3,674.
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said this in Parliament while responding to a starred question from Samshul Huq Chowdhury (Chittagong-12). He said the Health Directorate is implementing a
programme among female sex workers, vein drug takers and male sex workers and other under risk people to prevent HIV.
Under the programme, National Aids /STD Programme (NASP), free service is provided at 47 service centres (drop in centre) in 27 districts to 14,300 people. Besides, two centres are running in Dhaka to treat drug addicts.
According to the minister, 20 centres, including five are under five public medical colleges, are set to start operation to conduct HIV tests.
