The country’s first-ever experimental solar charging station was inaugurated in Keraniganj upazila on Friday for charging easy bike’s battery and giving new connection to 10,000 families.
Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam as the chief guest and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu as special guest opened the solar station set up on the rooftop of Sunny Filling Station at Ruhitpur in Keraniganj of Dhaka district.
The 21-KWP capacity solar station was installed at a cost of Tk 5.1 million under pilot project of the government.
Dhaka Palli Bidyut Samity-2 constructed the station through its own funding.
According to officials, the solar station could charge 20 to 22 batteries run vehicles at a time.
An amount of Tk 50 has been fixed for charging ‘Easybike battery’ and Tk 49 for a battery-run rickshaw.
Terming the present government as “industry-friendly”, Nasrul Hamid said a master plan has been undertaken by the government to give electricity connection across the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Nasrul Hamid said the country is moving forward fast under the charismatic stewardship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. General Manager of Dhaka Palli Bidyut Samity-2 Rabiul Hossain chaired the function, while Chairman of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board Major General Mainuddin and Keraniganj Upazila Chairman Shaheen Ahmed spoke as the special guests.
