The first digital cattle market of Bangladesh digitalhaat.net – a joint venture of DNCC and e-CAB – officially started its journey through an inauguration program on Saturday.
According to a press release, DNCC, ICT Division, E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Dairy Farm Association will jointly implement this digital haat, an initiative taken to check spread of Covid-19.
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam virtually inaugurated ‘DNCC Digital Haat.’
He urged the cattle market organizers to arrange digital haats, for selling and buying sacrificial animals ahead of the forthcoming Eid-ul Azha by maintaining social distancing.
“We have taken the initiative to save cattle farmers, traders, and marginal farmers from financial loss in this ongoing coronavirus crisis and stop further transmission of this deadly virus through this digital cattle market,” he said.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim said in the inauguration programme that a veterinary and a medical team would work in the market to stop the sick and unsuitable sacrificial animals from entering into or being sold in this market.
“A monitoring team comprising officials of the ministry will also work to serve the purpose,” said the minister.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) said, “Digital Haat will be more popular in future than the usual market. This pandemic has made the journey of digitalization dynamic.”
FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim and e-CAB President Shomi Kaiser and many others took part in the programme.
