World Health Day was observed in Jhenaidah on Friday. District health office arranged the programme marking the Day.
A colourful rally was brought from the office of the district civil surgeon that paraded the main road in the town. The rally was concluded at the starting point. A number of non-government organizations and personalities participated in the programme.
A discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the civil surgeon with civil surgeon Dr. Rashidah Sultana presided over. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abdur Rauf Mandal attended the discussion as Chief Guest.
Additional Superintendent of Police in Jhenaidah Sadar Circle Dr. Kaniz Hossain Jahan, retired principal of Government Nurunnahar Women’s College Prof NM Shahjalal, medical assistants’ training school principal Dr. Dulal Kumar Chakravarty and Guinea specialist of Jhenaidah general hospital Dr. Emdadul Haque attended the programme as special guests. Medical officer of the office of the civil surgeon Dr. Prosenjit Partha Biswas conducted the discussion.
The speakers gave emphasis on mental health and urged upon the people to show respect to the people with mentally retarded and rehabilitate them in the family to ensure their right and dignity.
Staff Reporter from Kishoreganj reports: In Bangladesh 4.6% of the people, both male and female are suffering from meaning 73.60 lakh out of 16 crore are leaving with depression in the country.
Kishoreanj District Health Department arranged a colourful rally, discussion, seminar, documentary film marking the World Health Day- 2017 in the district town and upazilas on Friday.

Health Director Dr. Deen Mohammad, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Mujibur Rahman, Assistant Director Dr. Ramnaj Mahamud, Abdul Hamid Medical College Principal Professor Nowshad Khan, Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Vice Principal Dr. Sajal Kumer Das, Press Club President Kazi Shaheen Khan, B.M.A President Dr. Mahabub Iqbal, Secretary Dr. Abdul Wahab Badal and Sanak President Journalist Saiful Hoque Mollah Dulu.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Habib said, Nearly 30 crore people across the world are suffering from depression. One in 25 people is living with depression in the world. A colourfull rally brought out in the town led by Civil Surgeon Dr. Habibur Rahman.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Health experts at a post-rally discussion here have said the present government has achieved a laudable success in the health sector to ensure health services for every citizen in building a developed and healthier nation.
The opinion came at the discussion arranged in the conference room of the civil surgeon in the city on Friday afternoon in observance of the World Heath Day-2017 with the theme of ‘Depression- Let’s Talk.’
District Civil Surgeon Office with Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Office, Lamb Hospital, World Vision, BRAC, Deep Eye Care Foundation, Community Eye Care and Research Centre, Merry Stopes Clinic, Light House, Surjer Hanshi Clinic, FPAB and other organisations chalked out programmes to observe the day.
The programmes included colourful rallies, free blood camping and blood donation, seminar, symposium, discussions and health campaign.
Earlier, government and non-government health officials, employees and workers, teachers, students, socio-cultural activists and civil society members participated in the colourful rally that paraded the city streets.
Divisional Director (Health) Dr Mozammel Hossain attended the discussion as the chief guest with Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam in the chair.
Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Shahin Ara Haque, Deputy Director of the Family Planning Department Dr Sheikh Saidul Islam as special guests addressed the discussion moderated by Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Ruhul Amin.
The speakers stressed creating awareness among the common people about healthcare to protect the society from health hazards and building consciousness on preventive measures of the deadly diseases and the curse of population pressure.
Dr Shahin Ara Haque put importance on ensuring proper healthcare and development of physical, mental and social health services, safe drinking water management and safe motherhood, resisting child marriage and food adulteration.
