Staff Reporter :
Confusion is gripping the nation over the recent controversial meeting of BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury with an Israeli national whom the government dubs as a ‘Mossad’ agent’ in India to topple it from the power.
The mass people have already lost their faith as government and BNP are continuing a ‘blame game’ in this regard.
People are waiting for unveiling the puzzle regarding the incident which became a sensitive topic for discussion after arresting Aslam Chowdhur on Sunday.
The government has repeatedly claimed that BNP leader Aslam met with a spy of Mossad in Delhi to make a plan to bring down the government.
But, BNP alleged that the government staged a drama over Aslam Chowdhury’s meeting with an Israeli leader to divert people’s attention to different direction from Bangladesh Bank’s reserve heist and other sensational murders.
In this situation, Israeli Likud Party leader Mendi N Safadi has admitted meeting Aslam Chowdhury in India, but claimed that it was during a public event and that they had not discussed ‘any secret issues’.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader and Awami League Presidium Member on Monday alleged that BNP has joined hands with Jewish intelligence agency Mossad to oust Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“BNP is trying to dislodge the government after their failure to wage a movement and conspiring in many ways against the government. Bangladesh is a Muslim country, and they (BNP) have joined hands with Mossad to oust a Muslim prime minister,” the minister said.
Quader, said this while addressing a discussion organised by Krishak League at Awami League central office in the city marking the Homecoming Day of party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and ruling Awami League leaders have alleged that the BNP is trying to come to power by using the Israeli intelligence agency.
Talking to reporters at his office on Tuesday, Shahriar said the government has information about it. In this connection, he referred to “meetings between BNP leaders and Mossad”.
“The government can ban the BNP tomorrow if the information is placed together,” he said.
On the othe hand, BNP on Tuesday alleged that the government staged a drama over Aslam Chowdhury’s meeting with an Israeli leader in India to divert people’s attention to a different direction from central bank’s reserve heist, UP polls irregularities and other sensational murders.
Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also termed the government claims as absurd. He said that the government’s allegation of hatching a plot against it sitting in a country like India, is a concocted story.
He also said the government is now trying to link BNP with Israel to confuse people and hide its failures.
Earlier, BNP Standing Committee Member Hannan Shah sees Indian spy agency RAW’s involvement in getting the photo published in Bangladesh media.
Amidst widespread criticism over the meeting between the BNP leader and the Israeli politician in India, Shah said in a discussion on Sunday, “We are not denying the photo.”
“I know RAW provided the photo,” Shah added.
Also, amid swirling controversy, newly appointed BNP Joint Secretary General Aslam Chowdhury has admitted he met an Israeli politician in New Delhi early this month but claimed the meeting was accidental, which was also attended by others. Talking to the media, he said he didn’t know if the Israeli politician had any links with Mossad, the Israeli secret service agency.
“The allegation that I’ve joined hands with Mossad man to unseat the government is totally fictitious and baseless,” Aslam said. Aslam said he was not aware of the programme. “I just went to have a cup of tea there.”
He claimed he went to New Delhi on a six-day visit from May 5 for business purposes and for sightseeing in Agra.
In the meantime, Likud Party leader Mendi N Safadi has said he met Aslam Chowdhury in a programme held in New Delhi in March not to plot against Bangladesh.
The Israeli ruling party politician also claimed that they did not discuss any hidden matter there.
“Conspiracy does not take place in an open event and the conspirators have published their photos in the Facebook as well. He questioned that how such move can be possible,” Safadi said. Safadi also said he recently visited India many times and the youth unit of BJP invited him to the Agra programme in which he met BNP leader Aslam.
