Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood on Thursday said the whole country will be brought under broadband facility by 2021.
“Development in information technology sector is going on rapidly and the whole country would be brought under broadband internet facility by 2021,” Dr Mahmood said.
The BTRC boss said these while addressing the inaugural function of Data Center Technologies Summit & Green Data Center Conference at capital’s Bangabandhu International Convention Center (BICC).
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Imran Ahmed, Data Center Practitioners Society of Bangladesh president Masud Pervez and general manager of Data Center Infrastructure Consultancy Limited Azmal Hossain addressed the function, among others.
Dr Mahmood that digitalization work have already began in many public and private companies, saying all the agencies will be brought under digital activities soon.
“Storing data is very important for every sector. We have to increase the number of data centres in the country and will have to bring fresh ideas as we are committed to march forward in the IT sector. We all have to get united to expand this sector,” Imran Ahmed said.
Data Center Infrastructure Consultancy Limited general manager Azmal Hossain said the conference is being held in the country for the second time and the main aim of this is to bring country’s youth and policymakers under the same roof and strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the global market.
Thirteen countries including the US, Germany, France and Italy are taking part in the two-day summit, where the attending companies are showcasing their services at 27 stalls.
