Country suffers from 70pc shortage in milk production: Sayedul

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque on Saturday stressed the need for a proper utilization of the Taka 200 crore commercial loan being distributed to the dairy sector at this moment and said the country still suffers from a 70 per cent shortage in milk production.
“Now country’s milk production stands at 72.75 lakh tonnes and the output should be doubled to meet the huge demand,” the minister said as the chief guest while addressing a conference of upazila, district and divisional level livestock officials under the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) at Krishibid Institution at Farmgate here recently.
“It is our responsibilities to provide cooperation to successful implementation of the loan
distribution programme being carried out by 12 commercial Banks and a financial organization,” said the minister.
Chaired by director general (DG) of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Ajoy Kumar Roy, the meeting also was addressed, among others, by State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda, Livestock Secretary Maksudul Hasan Khan and executive director of the Bangladesh Bank Suvongkor Saha.
