Country sees unprecedented dev in technical edn: Nahid

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday said the country is seeing an unprecedented development in technical education because of the government’s massive measures.
“The government has brought an extraordinary change in technical education in the last nine years. At present, over 14 percent students are receiving technical education,” he told a discussion at IDEB auditorium at Kakrail here.
A research book on “building skilled manpower to build a developed Bangladesh” was launched on the occasion.
The minister said the government has undertaken different measurers to attract students and guardians towards technical education and developing its standard, to impart training to teachers and engage investors and industry owners.
“We have to build skilled manpower to build an advanced Bangladesh. There is no alternative to technical and vocational education to this end,” he added.
Nahid also underlined the need for creating skilled workforce as per the demand of investors or recruiters.
He said the country has 49 public polygenic institutes while 23 more will be set up. There are 450 private institutes and around 7,000 technical education centres at private level, he said, adding that the government is cooperating with these institutions.
State Minister for Technical and Madrasah Education Kazi Keramat Ali, Additional Secretary AKM Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Md Safiul Islam (Mohiuddin) and Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) General Secretary Md Shamsur Rahman addressed on the occasion, among others.
