Noting that the country is riddled with 38 lakh pending cases, Law Minister Annisul Huq on Thursday said the ministry has initiated to form a ‘District Case Coordination Committee’ to expedite the disposals of the cases across the country.
“We are riddled with pile of pending cases. We’ve long been inheriting these. Currently, we have a total of 38 lakh cases pending across the country. We are taking initiative to form a
‘District Case Coordination Committee’ led by District Judge”, he said.
The committee would help in providing witnesses and investigation reports in short time, said the minister while attending a conference of Deputy Commissioners (DC) at the Secretariat.
Such coordination committees would also be comprised of district judges, DCs and Superintendents of Police, said law minister.
“We will inform how to dispose the drug related cases in short time with the existing Narcotics Control Act. We are also thinking of changing the law for quick disposal of the drug related cases,” he said.
Meanwhile, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, who also attended the DC conference, said “Within next 6-7 years the process of Digital Land Management will be completed. After that land related complications will be easily resolved.”
Replying a quarry over establishing political offices on government land, the minister said “The political offices will be evicted which are established on government land. The DC’s have been given direction in this regard.”
The three-day annual DC conference began on July 24 at Shapla Hall at Prime Minister’s Office.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended a view exchange meeting on the first day of the conference.
At least 18 working sessions were held in this year’s conference and ministers, advisors, state-ministers, deputy ministers and senior secretaries of 52 ministries and divisions participated in the conference.
