With the deaths of 36 more people in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Saturday, Bangladesh’s COVID-19 death count now stands at 5,129.
During this timeline, 1,106 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 3,57,873.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the matter through a press release signed by Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of DGHS, on Saturday afternoon. Health authorities also reported 1,753 more recoveries in a day, taking the total number of recoveries to 2,68,777.
Among the newly deceased, 25 were men and 11 women. Of them, 23 in Dhaka, eight in Chattogram, one in Khulna, two in Sylhet, one in Barishal and one in Mymensingh divisions.
In the last 24 hours, 104 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 10,680 samples and tested 10,765.
With this, a total of 18,98,775 samples were tested in the country.
The latest day’s infection rate is 10.27 per cent, compared to the sample tested, while the overall infection rate is 18.85.
Till now, the recovery rate is 75.10 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.43 per cent.
As of today, a total of 3,974 men (77.48 per cent) and 1,155 women (22.52 per cent) died of the deadly virus in the country.
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
According to Worldometer’s Covid-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 9,94,016 people globally and infected 3,27,95,817 as of Saturday afternoon.
