Country records 38 deaths from Covid in a day, highest in 22 weeks

The government on Monday reported 38 deaths and 9,369 caseload from Covid-19 across the country in the last 24 hours.
The latest figure of deaths have taken the overall fatality of the pandemic to 28,627 and the caseload stands at 1,870,901, according to the data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The data showed that about 44,471 samples tested in the last 24 hours found a test positivity rate of 21.07pc which was slightly lower than the previous day’s rate of 21.50.
The infection rate on Saturday was 23.83. The data showed the decreasing trend of the infection rate of the fatal virus. The DGHS data showed that another 9,507 people recovered from the disease across the country, taking the total recovery to 1,612,057 with a rate of 86.16pc.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday said that as per the target, all the people of the country will get the two doses of vaccines and the booster one against Covid-19 by December.
“We have been successful in our vaccination campaign. Around 10 crore people have been vaccinated so far,” the minister said while talking to reporters in the Secretariat.
“The government has so far spent more than Tk 20,000 crore on vaccinating the people,” Zahid Maleque said.
“About 70pc of the people have been inoculated in the country. Among them, around 6.75 crore people have received the second doses and 26 lakh people got the booster shots,” he said.
“The government is not finding people to vaccinate,” the minister said.
He said that there were 10 crore vaccines in stock, and the country received a total of 27 crore vaccine doses. The country will have extra vaccine stocks even after vaccinating all people, he added.
Zahid Maleque urged all to get vaccinated as the mortality rate declined among the vaccinated patients.
Currently, about 2,500 Covid-19 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country, including 1,500 patients, in hospitals in Dhaka, he mentioned.
The minister said that the country reported 322 Covid-19linked deaths and 2,13,294 new cases while 19,112 recovered from the disease in January.
Among the 322 deaths during the period, 234 were unvaccinated patients while 18 received the first dose, 68 the second dose and two the third dose, DGHS data showed.
