Infections from coronavirus (Covid-19) have climbed up by 1,681 in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours till Thursday to take the total cases to 404,760.
Besides, the virus has killed 25 people during the period to push the national death tally to 5,886.
Of the new deceased, 16 are men and four are women. Among the total dead, 4,529 or 77.95 percent are men while 1,357 or 23.05 percent are women.
Currently, there are 77,593 active cases in the country.
Bangladesh reported its first three coronavirus cases on March 8 last while the first death on March 18.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 1,548 more patients recuperated in the last 24 hours to take the total recoveries in the country to 321,281. During the period, 14,268 samples were tested in 111 labs across the country. With this, a total of 2,310,589 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 11.78 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 17.52 percent.
The recovery rate continued to rise in Bangladesh reaching 79.38 percent.
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.45 percent.
On Wednesday, Bangladesh reported 23 deaths and 1,493 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,357 samples with a positivity rate of 12.08 percent.
Meanwhile, Coronavirus continued to spread its ugly head around the world sickening 537,582 people in the last 24 hours till 10am on Thursday.
In total, the confirmed infections from the virus have reached 44,772,845 worldwide.
Besides, 1,179,224 people, 7,936 during the period, lost their lives due to Covid-19, which is caused by coronavirus, globally, according to tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 10,866,492 patients, 10,785,213 are in mild condition while 81,279 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 32,727,129 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. Of them, 283,757 recuperated in the last 24 hours.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 9,120,751 and 233,130 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 8,040,203 and third highest fatalities of 120,563 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 158,468 and third highest cases of 5,469,755.
