Staff Reporter :BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has said that the country is now passing through a crisis moment. “There is no democracy. The country has turned into a police state. In this situation, all of us, including the people have to come forward to save the country,” she said. The BNP chief was speaking at an Iftar party at Hotel Sonargaon in the city on Wednesday. National People’s Party (NPP), a partner of the BNP-led 20-party alliance arranged the Iftar party in honour of the political leaders. Leaders of the 20-party alliance joined the Iftar function in invitation of NPP Chairman Dr Fariduzzamn Farhad. Among them, BNP leaders Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan, secretary general of a faction of Jatiya Party Mostafa Jamal Haider, secretary general of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Dr Redwan Ahmed, Aminul Islam of Jamaat-e-Islami, ameer of Khelafat Majlish Maulana Mohammad Ishaq, chairman of Islami Oikya Jote Maulana Abdul Latif Nezami, president of Jatiya Gonotantrik Party (Jagpa) Shafiul Alam Prodhan, chairman of Bangladesh Kalyan Party Maj (Retd) Syed Mohammad Ibrahim Birpratik, chairman of Bangladesh NAP Jebel Rahman Ghaani, Khandaker Golam Mortuza of National Democratic Party (NDP), President of Bangladesh Islamic Party Barrister Sayadul Hasanand Comrade Sayeed Ahmed of Samyabadi Dal. Journalist Dr Mahfuz Ullah and several other professionals also joined the function. NNP Chairman Dr Fariduzzamn Farhad received the guests in the Iftar programme.Before the Iftar, a special munajat was offered seeking divine blessing of Almighty Allah for the country and the Muslim Ummah. Khaleda Zia is scheduled to join the Iftar party of Jamaat-e-Islami at the same venue today (Thursday).
