The country’s first ever LPG tanker ship ‘MT Delta LPG 1’ approved by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS Class) was built at Delta Shipyard at Mohra Kalurghat in the port city. The ship is 78.8 meters long and 13 meters wide. The capacity of the ship with a draft of 3.3 meters (underwater part of the ship) is 1 thousand metric tons. On Monday last , the MT Delta LPG 1 was officially launched from the yard into the river. On this occasion, a gathering of shipbuilding industry, banks and financial institutions and businessmen was held in the yard.
Amirul Haque, Managing Director, Delta LPG Limited, said, “We want to be partners in the implementation of the far-reaching vision announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. We have decorated our new ship in red and green on this golden jubilee of independence. We want to create a better Bangladesh. We want to send LPG by river to neighboring countries, including India’s Seven Sisters. Earlier, we have exported Premier Cement to these states by river.
Delta Shipyard has already built 14 international standard cargo vessels and 3 barges which are now in operation. At present 10 IR class approved ships including 3 cargo vessels, 1 LPG carrier are under construction. The company is capable of building all types of international standard high capacity cargo ships, oil tankers, barges, tugboats, dredgers etc. In line with the growth of the developing economy due to the business-friendly policies of the government and keeping in view the Prime Minister’s Vision 2021 and 2041, Delta Shipyard is determined to meet the domestic demand of the country by building ships as well as increase its participation in the international marine market.
