Staff Reporter :
Outgoing President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Wednesday said, “The country is now facing uneasy situation. Our democracy, judiciary and rule of law are under threat.”
“The present government and the former Chief Justice A B M Khairul Haque are responsible for such uneasy situation, killing and disorder. The Present government is
demolishing democracy and trying to stay in power permanently. But the people of Bangladesh will not take it easy. The whole nation is now passing an uncertain time,” said Advocate Zainul Abedin.
He said this in a press briefing organized by the outgoing committee of the SCBA on the Supreme Court premises yesterday. SCBA Secretary and other leaders of the outgoing committee were present on the occasion.
Replying to a query Advocate Zainul Abedin said, “Neither Khaleda Zia herself nor any of her family did say anything or submitted any petition about her release on parole. Even no proposal was recommended from the government side on the issue.” “We learned about the parole of Khaleda Zia from the media. The government does not have the good will to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. She has been imprisoned filing political cases. She is being pushed towards death day by day,” said the lawyer. The outgoing President claimed that he had done a lot for the well being of the lawyers of the Supreme Court during his tenures.
