Counter Terrorism Unit testifies in Avijit murder case

The Counter-Terrorism unit Inspector Muhammad Monirul Islam yesterday testified in the blogger Avijit Roy murder case and the court fixed today (Thursday) for further cross-examination of witness.
Judge Md Mujibur Rahman of the Anti-Terrorism Tribunal recorded the depositions of the witness. However, as the defence lawyers could not complete cross-examining Inspector Monirul, the court fixed Thursday for further cross-examination.
Earlier, of the 34 prosecution witnesses 28 testified in the case while the court recorded their depositions. Testifying of witnesses in the case begun on October 28, 2019 with late Professor Ajoy Roy, who was the father of slain Avijit Roy.  
On August 1, charge was framed against six accused. The accused persons are- sacked Major Syed Ziaul Haq Zia, Akram Hossain alias Hasib alias Adnan alias Abdullah, Abu Siddique Sohel, Mozammel Hussain alias Saimon, Arafat Rahman, and Shafiur Rahman Farabi. Of them, Zia and Farabi are on the run.
On February 26, 2015, US-based Bangladeshi blogger Avijit Roy was murdered near the Teacher Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University by a gang of assailants in an attack that left Avijit’s wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya wounded and she survived.
Avijit’s father Dr Ajoy Roy, who died later, filed the murder case against unidentified assailants with Shahbagh Police Station of the city on the following day (February 27, 2015).
