Kishoreganj District Administration launched countdown celebration of the birth centenary of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Friday.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Dulal Chandra Sutrador presided over the function at local Collectorate premises while SP Md. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) attended as Chief Guest.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Mujibur Rahman, Deputy Secretary of Local Government (LG) Md. Abdullah, District Awami League President Adv Kamrul Ahsan Shajahan and General Secretary Adv M.A Afzol, ADC (General) Abdullah-al-Masud, Additional SP (Promoted SP) Nazmul Islam, Poura Mayor Md. Parvez Mia, ADC (Edu. & ICT) Habibur Rahman, ADM Md. Golam Mostafa, Additional SP Mizanur Rahman, Former Freedom Fighter Unit Commonder Md. Aasd Ullah, Sadar UNO Abdul Kadir, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, Sanak Convenor Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, Government, NGOs Officers, Journalists and hundreds of people from all walks of life, including students, teachers, youth’s and local elite attended the function.
A cultural function was held at Collectorate Building premise marking the day.
District Police arranged a discussion and cultural function at Police Lines on Friday evening.
SP Md. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) chaired the programme.
District Awami League arranged a discussion meeting at its office with Unit President Adv Kamrul Ahsan Shajahan in the chair.
BSS from Rangpur says: The countdown of the Mujib Barsho (Mujib Year) was launched in a colourful function amid huge festivity under the management of Rangpur cantonment area headquarters at Rangpur cantonment on Friday afternoon.
Rangpur Area Command and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 66 Infantry Division Major General Md. Nazrul Islam attended the function as the chief guest, a press release said.
Senior military officials, other officials, junior commissioned officers, members of Bangladesh Army of different ranks attended the function.
Hundreds of students of Millennium Stars Schools and College, Cantonment Public School and College and Cantonment Board School Bir Uttam Shaheed Samad School and College School were present.
Documentary films on the Independence and the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were screened on the occasion of countdown of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.
The centenary birth celebrations of Bangabandhu in the Mujib Year will start from March 17 to continue till March 26, 2021 marking the Golden Jubilee of Independence.
BSS from Gaibandha reports: Countdown to the celebration of Mujib Year, birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was launched here as elsewhere in the country on Friday amid much festivity to the people.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the countdown across the country on Friday afternoon through pressing a button of a laptop at the Old Airport, the place where Bangabandhu first touched the soil of his independent Bangladesh on January 10 in 1972 after freeing from the Pakistan jail.
Marking the countdown inauguration, the district administration chalked out elaborate programmes.
In the morning, a press conference was held at the conference room of deputy commissioner around 10 am where DC Abdul Matin briefed the journalists about the programmes.
In the afternoon, whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini paid rich tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his portrait in the district town around 3pm.
Later, the district administration led by DC Abdul Matin, district police led by police superintendent Towhidul Islam, district Awami League led by its president Advocate Syed Shams-ul-Alam Hiru and its general secretary Abu Bakar Siddique and mayor of Gaibandha Pourasabha Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir
Kabir Milon placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
The programme was followed by a big colorful rally led by Mahabub Ara Begum Gini which was brought out from the district town premises and ended at the Poura Park after parading the main city streets.
Besides, a mass gathering was held on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar from where the people witnessed the inaugural ceremony of the countdown of Mujib Year.
Earlier, Alfad Hossain, a seventh grader student of Taslim Uddin Bidya Niketan of Sadullapur upazila here presented the historical 7th March speech in the gathering. Eye-catching fireworks were also displayed at the Poura Park.
The daylong programmes ended through holding a cultural function on the Shaheed Minar premises where a good number of district artistes rendered songs, performed dances, recited poems and staged dramas.
Thousands of people including district level officials, political leaders, freedom fighters, NGO-worker, activists of socio-cultural organisations and students and teachers took part in the rally and the cultural programme spontaneously.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: People of all strata here on Friday observed the countdown launching ceremony of ‘Mujib Year’, birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, amidst festivity and joy.
To mark the ceremony, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), district and upazila administration have adopted elaborate programmes to celebrate the ‘Mujib Borsho-‘ everywhere in the district including the divisional headquarters as well as city corporation area.
RCC authority has installed two countdown machines, one at city bhaban premises and other at Boro Masjid premises, while Rajshahi University installed a machine at its administrative building premises and district administration installed nine machines, one each in nine upazilas, for live broadcast of the Prime Minister’s countdown launching programme.
The City Corporation has also arranged a colourful cultural programme to mark the ceremony. Around 50,000 people including school and college students joined the city’s countdown launching programmes amidst massive jubilation.
Among many other dignitaries, RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Divisional Commissioner Humayun Kabir Khandaker, Deputy Inspector General of Police AKM Hafiz Akter, RMP Commissioner Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque and Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shahidullah were present at the city bhaban premises programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said January 10, 1972 is very significant day for the nation for beginning the countdown of the Mujib Year as it marks the historical “Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day”.
On this day, Bangabandhu returned to an independent and sovereign Bangladesh after spending nine and a half months of captivity in a Pakistan jail.
