Hasibur Rahman Manik, a ward Councillor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), was beaten up during the inauguration of a playground at Lalbag, Dhaka
The incident took place during the inauguration of Shaheed Haji Abdul Alim playground on Saturday.
DSCC Mayor Sayeed Khokan opened the playground in front of a good number of people.
Councillor Hasibur Rahman Manik said, “I did not take the name of the local MP, but the names of the Bangabandhu and the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with respect. If I were wrong,, he (Haji Mohammad Selim) could
ask for clearance. But instead of doing that, he assaulted me in front of many other people. In such situation, I could not help tears rolling down my cheeks.
Haji Mohammad Selim MP, Councilor Hasibur Rahman Manik, Chief Executive Officer of the corporation Shah Imdadul Haque, Chief Engineer Rezaul Karim, Councilors of the neighbouring wards and the local elite were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Saturday afternoon inaugurated the Shaheed Haji Abdul Alim playground at Lalbag in the capital under the DSCC’s ‘water-green Dhaka project.
He said that after seizure of our parks and playgrounds by various anti-social activities, vandalists and terrorist, we undertook the ‘water-green Dhaka project.’ As part of that project, the world-class playground was inaugurated today (Saturday). Thirty-one parks and playgrounds will be seen in due time.
