Cost of Aman production increased

The month of Bhadra has arrived. The farmers are worried about the Aman plantation.They are now busy preparing Aman land by irrigating water from sallow machines, leaving the expectation of rain. However, additional costs have been added. Most of the farmers have started Aman cultivation with irrigation water. However, the farmers of Ishwardi are in trouble due to the increase in the cost of diesel, fertiliser, land cultivation and labour. Due to rising cost of production, farmers have lost interest in Aman cultivation this time.
The Ishwardi Meteorological Office said that there has been no such low rainfall in the month of Asadha-Shravan in the last 42 years. According to the Meteorological Office, the average rainfall in Ishwardi during June-July 2021 was 11.75 mm. And in 2022, the average rainfall was only 2.55 mm in two months. That is, as a percentage, 78.30 percent less rain has been received this year than last year. After visiting different areas of the upazila, it is known that the farmers are planting rice seedlings with irrigation as Bhadra month is coming. Planting rice seedlings.
According to Ishwardi Agriculture Office, the target of Aman paddy cultivation has been set in 3 thousand 780 hectares of land in Ishwardi this year. Now the last season of Aman paddy cultivation is going on. Jute still remains in the field. Jute lifting and Aman planting time is passing. Due to which the land of Aman Abad is feared to decrease. Meanwhile, due to the increase in the prices of fertilizers and diesel, plows and labor, farmers are not showing much interest in paddy cultivation. The agriculture department said that half of the target land has been planted with rice so far. Apart from lack of rain, the increase in cost of fuel, fertiliser, irrigation, plow and labor is being blamed.
Hanif Molla, a farmer of Muladuli area of Ishwardi, besides cultivating his own land, also used to farm the land of local farmers on contract with his tractor. This time he is in danger because of the sudden increase in the price of oil. Ranjit, a farmer of Bilkedar village, cultivates his own land as well as cultivates other people’s land with a power trolley. He said that by raising the price of fuel oil, he is charging Tk 450 for one cultivation per bigha of land. Earlier it was Tk350.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar said that Upsi Ropa Amon Bri-Dhan-87, 80, 75 and Bina-17 varieties are being given to the farmers. By cultivating these modern Aman rice it is possible to get bumper yields without irrigation and using less fertilizers.
