Corruptions in DSCC must stop; says new Mayor

The newly elected Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Sayeed Khokon started his official duties on Thursday. The councillors and the DSCC staff greeted him when he reached the office in the morning.
On his first day at city office (Nagar Bhaban), the mayor directed the officials to evict the illegal establishment as early as possible.
 “Dhaka South City Corporation will be administered in a systematic way. No irregularities will be tolerated here. Illegal establishments in different parts of the city create problems. So, we should evict the illegal establishments,” Khokon said.
The new mayor said that he would talk to the city people about their problems and take up decisions to resolve those to improve their lifestyle.
 “I shall always welcome your constructive suggestions,” Khokon told the media men.
He also vowed to take initiatives to curb corruptions in his city corporation area.
 “I know it is very difficult to curb corruption but we have to work together to do that. Dhaka will be an ideal city in the world and we shall try our best to provide civic amenities,” Khokon said.
In the morning, Sayeed Khokon along with the city corporation’s officials paraded different roads through Bangabazar, Bangshal, Dholaikhal and Nayabazar area by traditional carts.
Habibul Islam Sumon, the personal secretary of the mayor, said that Sayeed Khokon had respected the tradition of the area. As a mark thereof, he went to his office on the first day by a cart.
Meanwhile, Mayor Sayeed Khokon along with the newly elected councilors will go to Tungipara to offer doa and to place floral wreath at Bangabandhu’s Mazar today (Friday).
Ruling Awami League-backed candidate Khokon defeated BNP-backed mayoral candidate Mirza Abbas by 241,005 votes in the April 28 city polls. He took oath as DSCC mayor on Wednesday.
