BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Wednesday said that corruption had spread all spheres of society in absence of a popular government in the country.
Speaking at a human-chain programme, he said that the current government broke all the previous records of corruption index.
Association of Engineers, Bangladesh arranged the programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club, demanding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
“It has now been exposed how did Chhatra League and Jubo League repress people and indulge in extortion and tender manipulation for the last 10 years. The situation has been so bad that the government became compelled to remove the immediate past President and General Secretary from their posts,” he said.
Moudud Ahmed said, “There’s no institution and office free from corruption, bribery and evil practices of making illegal money. Corruption has spread everywhere in absence of a elected government in the country.”
Referring to media reports, Moudud said, The government has prepared a list of 500 Chhatra League leaders and activists who are involved with extortion. “Actually, their number is more than 5,000.”
He said, “It is now proved that Chhatra League and Jubo League are involved with extortion, tender manipulation, repression, grabbing people’s land and shops and snatching of money.”
