Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Sunday said that former mayor Sayeed Khokon’s remark about him was his personal comment.
On Saturday Sayeed Khokon claimed that Taposh was unfit to hold the mayor post.
“Sayeed Khokon’s remark does not hold any importance,” Taposh said while placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhaka’s Dhanmondi 32, on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s homecoming day.
Referring to Sayeed Khokon’s allegation that he was violating the local government’s rules and laws, Taposh said,
“It is not appropriate to react, while holding a responsible position, if someone says something based on personal outrage.”
About Khokon’s claim that they are failing to pay city corporation employees their salaries, he said this is a “baseless allegation”.
Replying to a query about Khokon’s say that Taposh had transferred hundreds of crores of taka from treasury to Modhumoti Bank, under his ownership, he (Taposh) said all private banks of the country collect FDR amounts from all government agencies, following prevailing rules of the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance. So it is not corruption.
The present mayor of the DSCC said, “If anyone takes bribe, if anyone is involved in commission business, if anyone embezzles government money, if anyone takes money using influence of his position or gives assurance of favours, then that is corruption. The allegation which he brought is not objective.”
The DSCC mayor also said that the eviction drives will be continued against unlawful.
