Total fatalities linked to Covid-19 have jumped past 5,000 to reach 5,007 in Bangladesh after the health authorities reported 28 more deaths in the last 24 hours till Tuesday.
A fresh count of 1,557 coronavirus cases during the period has taken confirmed infections in the country to 352,178.
Of the new deceased, 17 are men and 11 are women. Among the total dead, 3,890 or 77.69 percent are men while 1,117 or 22.31 percent are women.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 2,073 more patients recuperated from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours to bring the total recoveries to 260,790.
During the period, 14,164 samples were tested in 102 labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,848,487 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate-an indicator of the prevalence of the disease-was recorded at 10.99 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 19.05 percent.
The recovery rate continued to rise in Bangladesh
reaching 74.05 percent while the mortality rate is 1.42 percent, one of the lowest in the world.
On Monday, Bangladesh registered 40 deaths and 1,705 infections from coronavirus after testing 13,053 samples.
Meanwhile, the death toll from coronavirus has reached 969,298 around the world as of Tuesday morning.
Besides, 31,482,604 people have so far been infected with the virus in different countries, according to Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 7,403,220 patients, 7,341,388 are in mild condition while 61,832 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 23,110,086 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 7,046,216 and 204,506 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 5,560,105 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 137,350.
