More than 2,000 Supreme Court lawyers have applied for loans from the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) through emails as the association decided to provide interest free loans to its members in need to tackle the financial pressure during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
SCBA President Advocate AM Amin Uddin said, “More than 2,000 members of the Supreme Court Bar Association have already applied for loans. We are still receiving applications from the members. We will scrutinize the applications next week.”
The association’s executive committee will hold a meeting next week to fix the amount of loan to be given to each lawyer.
On April 10, the executive committee at a meeting decided to sanction the interest-free loans to its troubled members during the ongoing crisis amid coronavirus pandemic. The loan receiving members will get three years time to repay the amount, as per the decision.
The office bearers of the SCBA, including its President Advocate AM Amin Uddin, finalised the decision after holding a meeting through video conference.
On April 16, SCBA Secretary Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal said that the association decided to provide the loans for three years term to those members who are not affluent enough to tackle the (economic) crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
