Bangladesh’s coronavirus count crossed the 149,000-mark on Wednesday as the deadly virus continues to exact a heavy toll on human lives and health across the country.
Prof Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said 3,775 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
Speaking in a press briefing, she said that the total number of coronavirus cases in the country now increased to 149,258 with the fresh ones.
Prof Nasima said that 17,875 samples were tested in 65 labs across the country during the period.
With this, a total of 787,335samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.12 percent while the infection rate 19.03 against the total tests carried out so far, she said.
Besides, Prof Dr Nasima said that 41 more people died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, climbing the death toll in the country to 1,888.
Of the new deceased, 38 are men while three are women.
Chattogram division witnessed the highest causalities with 17 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Besides, 13 died in Dhaka, five in Khulna, three in Barishal, two in Sylhet and one in Rangpur divisions during the same day.
Prof Nasima said 2,484 more patients recovered from Covid-19 during the period taking the number of people making recovery to 62,108.
The DGHS additional director general also said the recovery rate is 41.61 while the mortality rate is 1.26 percent.
On Tuesday, Bangladesh reported record 64 deaths from coronavirus and 3,682 cases. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have soared to 10,585,641 around the world as of Wednesday morning.
Besides, the virus has so far claimed the lives of 513,913 people globally, according to Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 4,276,076 patients, 4,218,288 are in mild condition while 57,788 are in serious or critical condition.
