Sourcing of coronavirus testing kits has faced serious setback due to non-payment of importers against their supplies.
Earlier, several firms provided kits in phases to the Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD) amid the spread of coronavirus in the country.
But the CMSD reportedly did not pay a single penny to the suppliers leading to halt in import of Covid-19 testing kits by the importing firms.
Maruf Ahmed, Director of OMC Limited claimed that CMSD is not clearing bills of any of the importers. “We can’t place new orders as we have no fund,” he added.
OMC Limited is one of the firms that supplied Covid-19 testing kits to the CMSD.
DGHS Director General Prof Abul Kamal Azad told media that the problem would be solved by the end of the current month.
DG of DGHS said they got only Tk 250 crore although a budget of Tk 900 crore was allotted to face the coronavirus situation.
He said they will prepare a standard operating procedure after June 30 and then a lot of kits will be stored.
According to sources at the DGHS, over 7 lakh coronavirus testing kits were imported in the last three months.
