Corona death: 73 per cent above 50

304 in first week of July, 75 per cent in hospital, Dhaka division tops

The corona death queue is becoming longer day by day in the country. After analyzing the coronavirus fatalities by age group it has seen that 73 per cent causalities are above 50.
In a press briefing, Director General of Health Service’s (DGHS) Additional Director General (Administration) Dr Nasima Sultana said, adding Dhaka division ranked top with Covid-19 death.
According to DGHS data, out of 2,151 dead, 13 were below 10 years, 25 between 11 and 20, 71 between 21 and 30, 155 between 31 and 40, 323 between 41 and 50, 624 between 51 and 60, and 940 were above 60 years.
On the other hand, based on DGHS data, 304 coronavirus death was reported in the first week of July (1-7 July). Of them, 227 died in hospitals of which 75 per cent in ratio of total death in first week of July, 73 patients died at their residences and in a ratio it is 24 per cent and four patients died on the way to hospital which is about one per cent of total death.
However, Bangladesh reported first corona infection on March 8 and the first death on March 18. Total five Covid-19 death was reported on March while 163 in April, 482 in May and 1,197 in June. More than 60 per cent death was reported in June.
In Divisional data analysis, Dhaka tops the list with Covid-19 causalities according to DGHS.
Since 11 March, 51.33 per cent of the total deceased died in Dhaka Division, 25.89 per cent in Chattogram division, 4.97 per cent in Rajshahi division, 4.51 per cent in Khulna, 3.6 per cent in Barishal, 4.2 per cent in Sylhet, 3.02 per cent in Rangpur and 2.41 per cent died in Mymensingh division.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh has reported 55 more deaths from the Novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours. This is the second time in a week that the country has witnessed such a high number of single-day deaths. The same number of deaths were recorded just three days ago, on Saturday.
The death toll now stands at 2,151 and the death rate at 1.28 per cent. Another 3,027 people tested positive in the last 24 hours till 8am on Tuesday, taking the number of infections in the country to 1,68,645.
Thirty-nine Covid-19 patients died in different hospitals and 15 at their respective homes and one on the way to hospital.
“Of the deceased, 46 were men and nine were women, and 27 of them were from Dhaka, 12 from Chattogram, seven from Khulna, two each from Barishal, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Sylhet each, one from Mymensingh divisions,” she added.
According to the gender-wise analysis, some 1,703 people are males and 448 females, which is 79.17 per cent and 20.82 per cent respectively.
“About 13,491 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 13,173 were tested in 74 laboratories across the country. So far 873,480 samples have been tested,” Nasima said.
Besides, 1,953 patients recovered during the time, increasing the tally to 78,102.
Around 46.31 per cent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.28 per cent have died.
The latest day’s infection rate was 22.98 per cent of the total tests, though the overall rate is 19.31 per cent.
Currently, 63,441 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,438 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 318,167 people have completed their quarantine course.
The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people under 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country.
“The authorities placed 802 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 16,873 after 15,478 left,” said Nasima.
