Cops withdrawn from Khaleda’s residence

The government on Sunday night pulled out the police personnel engaged in ensuring security around BNP chairperson’ s Gulshan residence. BNP chairperson’s media wing member Shamsuddin Didar said six constables and a havilder were withdrawn from around the BNP chief’s residence around 9am. He said the seven policemen were given directive around 8pm to pack up to move to another place. Later, a police vehicle arrived there around 8:50pm and took them away. One of the seven policemen, Johirul Haq, said the higher authorities have shifted their duties to another area and asked to leave Khaleda’ s residence with all their belongings. He, however, could not say anything about the reasons behind the government decision. Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of DMP Masudur Rahman told UNB that he has no idea about the withdrawal of the policemen from Khaleda’s residence. However, a police official requesting anonymity said they have pulled out the police members from around the BNP chief’s house as she is not staying in it. Khaleda has been residing in her Gulshan office since January 3. The police members where withdrawn at a time when a court on Sunday issued a warrant for the search of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan political office in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act. Earlier on Feb 25, another Dhaka court issued warrant for the arrest Khaleda Zia and two other accused in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust Fund graft cases However, the law enforcers are yet to any move to arrest the BNP chief.
