Prime suspect housemaid held: Cops still in dark on Dhanmondi double murder motive

Police have raised confusion over the primary confession of Surovi Akter Nahida, the key suspected killer of elderly female house owner Afroza Begum and her housemaid Diti on the fourth floor if the five storied building at Dhanmondi in the city.
The law enforcers arrested the suspect Nahida from a slum in the capital’s Agargaon on Sunday, Dhanmondi Police Station OC Abdul Latif said.
The law enforcers suspected that Nahida is a professional killer in the guise of domestic help, said Abdullahil Kafi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The ‘killer’ entered the building in the afternoon and left it after murdering the duo by elapsing two to three hours, he said based on the video footage.
“We are still confused as she admitted at the custody that she killed them as they created embargo to go out of the building,” the police official said.
The suspicion of mental problem over the killer has been intensified as her statement almost contradicted one after another, according to him.
He said the killer left her bloodstained shoes nearby the gate of the house to escape the arrest.
She also changed her movement from city’s Mirpur to Agargaon just few hours before of detaining that is impossible for an imbalanced woman, he further said.
After the bodies of Afroza Begum, 65, and her house help Diti, 18, were found with throats slit at their home on Friday, police said, adding as they were looking for a new housemaid, an woman domestic help entered the house in the afternoon and left in the evening.
Police are yet to reveal a motive but believe such murders are the work of a professional killer and Nahida actually posed as a housemaid to carry out the killings.
Dilruba Sultana, daughter of one of the house owner Afroza Begum, filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station early Sunday.
Atikul Haque Bachchu, bodyguard of Dilruba’s husband Kazi Monir Uddin, was made the number one accused while the unknown domestic help made the number two accused in the case, said Sub-Inspector Subrata Boidya of Dhanmondi Police Station.
The other accused are-security guard Nuruzzaman, caretaker Belal and one Prince. Bachchu took the domestic help to Afroza’s flat.
Earlier, Afroza Begum, 65, Deputy Managing Director of Creative Group, and her domestic help Diti, 17, were found slit-throat at a flat on the fourth floor of a building on road 28.
Morgue sources said, there were multiple stab marks on Afroza’s belly, chest and back while Bithi had stab marks on her chest.
