The abuse of legal firearms at private level has crated panic among the countrymen in recent years, alleged security experts and victims’ families.
Many arms holders, mainly politicians and public representatives, have become disparate to use their arms as per ‘wish’ by violating the acknowledgement they made in their submitted papers, they said.
Even the legal arms are allegedly used for committing crimes, including murder, robbery, extortion and smuggling, they said, considering it as a threat for security of the countrymen.
The security experts blamed weak license policy for using private arms as the gun holders take the opportunities of loopholes prevailing in the Arms Act to get the permission of government’s approval.
According to intelligence sources, there are about two lakh legal arms in the country. More than 10,000 guns were allotted for new people in last nine years. Of them, the members of law enforcing agencies have no idea about 20,000 guns.
