Two policemen were injured after being beaten up by a group of local people when trying to pick up an alleged drug peddler from Sohagdal village in Nesarabad upazila on Sunday.
Nesarabad Police Station officer-in-charge PS Monirul Islam said sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman and constable Yusuf went to the grocery shop of Sohel at Hazirpur village around 7:30pm, based on the information that hemp was being traded at the shop.
When the duo attempted to arrest Sohel, a group of local people swooped on them and beat them. The mob also kept them confined in the shop.
Later, the OC along with his force went to the spot and rescued the two.
Locals alleged that the two policemen threw hemp into Sohel’s shop to frame him as a hemp trader.
Pirojpur additional superintendent of police M Ashraf said they will take departmental action against the policemen if they are found guilty in the investigation.
