UNB, Jhenidah :At least 12 people, including two policemen, were injured in a clash between two factions of Awami League atKatlagari Bazar in Shailakupa upaizla on Tuesday.Sagir Miah, officer-in-charge of Shailakupa Police Station, said Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, a chairman of Sarutia union parishad, and Julfikar Kaisar Tipu, a former Chhatra League leader, had been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area.As a sequel to the enmity, the supporters of both groups equipped withlethal weapons attacked each other at Katlagari Bazar around 9:30 am, leaving 12 people injured. On information, police fired 16 shots and lobbed teargas shells to disperse the warring groups.Imdad Hossain, sub-inspector of Shailakupa Police Station and constable Mujibur Rahman, were also injured in the clash. They were taken to hospital. Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
