Avijit murder case: Cop testifies

The Anti-terrorism Tribunal of Dhaka yesterday recorded the depositions of police constable Saiful Kabir in the blogger Avijit Roy murder case and fixed December 30 to record the depositions of other witnesses.
Judge Md Mujibur Rahman of the tribunal recorded the depositions of the witness. Earlier, on October 28, Dr Ajoy Roy, father of slain Avijit Roy testified and the court so far recorded the depositions of eight witnesses in the case.
On August 1, charge was framed against six accused.
The accused persons are Major Syed Ziaul Haq Zia, Akram Hossain alias Hasib alias Adnan alias Abdullah, Abu Siddique Sohel, Mozammel Hussain alias Saimon, Arafat Rahman and Shafiur Rahman Farabi. Of them, Zia and Farabi are on the run.
On February 26, 2015, US-based Bangladeshi blogger Avijit Roy was murdered near the Teacher Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University by a gang of assailants in an attack that left Avijit’s wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya wounded. But she survived. Avijit’s father Dr Ajoy Roy filed the murder case against unidentified assailants with Shahbagh Police Station of the city on the following day (February 27).
