A police constable was killed in a road accident in front of district election office here on Bagerhat-Khulna Highway on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Shams Omar Ali, 55, a constable of Bagerhat Sadar Police. He hailed from the district of Gopalganj.
Bagerhat Police Super Mohammad Nizamul Hoque Mollah said Omar Ali suffered critical injuries as his bicycle was rammed from behind by a passenger bus. At that time the constable was going to Sadar police outpost to join his duty like other days.
Omar Ali was rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital where he died.
The killer bus was seized but its driver, however, managed to flee the scene, police said.
A case was recorded with the concerned thana in this connection.
