Sounds of gunshots were heard after the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) launched operation into the suspected militant den at Borohat in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila on Friday.
Police said members of CTTC unit and SWAT started the drive codenamed “Operation Maximus’ around 9:53am and it was suspended due to insufficient light and inclement weather. The operation will be resumed today (Saturday) morning.
A policeman sustained injuries in a blast believed to have been caused by bombs hurled by the militants.
Constable Kaisar was taken to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for treatment, said our local correspondent quoting Police.
CTTC Chief Monirul Islam said in a press briefing on Friday evening that the operation had been suspended due to insufficient light and bad weather.
Monirul Islam said the injury was minor in nature. “Otherwise, everyone of the law enforcing agencies was safe and sound.
About four to five militants were inside the house with huge stash of explosives, he said.
While briefing, CTTC unit Chief and DMP Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam said, “Operation Maximus is a difficult one as there are several rooms in the building and huge explosives were lying scattered. We suspect presence of an explosive expert with the militant group in the building. But we are unable to tell the exact number of militants right now there.”
Meanwhile, the local administration has banned public gathering in Borohat area from 9:00am on Friday to avoid any kind of casualties.
The announcement was made by the police through a loudspeaker in the morning and the order will be remain in force until further order, said a member of CTTC unit, wishing anonymity.
Earlier on Thursday, the law enforcers found the limbs of seven bodies, scattered at Nasirpur den in Moulvibazar Sadar upazila during the operation ‘Operation Hit Back, carried out by CTTC unit.
Monirul Islam said that suspected militants blasted several bombs when SWAT members tried to enter the building during the operation on Friday.
Meanwhile, the seven people, who were killed in a militant den in Nasirpur of Moulvibazar on thursday, died in suicidal blast, doctors said after carrying out autopsy on their body on Friday.
“The bodies were totally disintegrated and started to decompose, presumably they died 30 hours ago,” said Dr Partha Sarathi Dutta Kanungo, the Coordinator of Moulvibazar General Hospital.
A four-member team of forensic experts led by Dr Abu Imran conducted the autopsy. “A number of small pieces of wires were found inside the body parts,” Dr Kanungo said.
One of the four children killed was about two to three months old and its sex could not be determined, according to the autopsy report. Another girl child was found to be two to three years old while the two other were aged 10 and 12 years respectively, the doctor told reporters.
The two women killed in the blast were aged around 25 years and 30 years.
The male militant suspect killed in the blast was presumably 35 years old.
