Cop held while mugging in Sylhet

A police constable was nabbed by mob on charge of mugging money from the vanity bag of a woman in Barutkhan area of Sylhet city on Monday afternoon.
The detained police constable was identified as Sohel Rana, who works at Motorjan Section of the District Police.
The woman Tamanna Akhter Kali, daughter of Ansar Ali, is an inhabitant of Dhopa Dighir Par area of the city, police said.
Quoting the witnesses, Sohel Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station, said, “A three-member mugging gang riding on a motorbike snatched Tk 2 lakh from Tamanna after intercepting the rickshaw on her way to Jindabazar Branch of Brac Bank around 1:30pm. The local people rushed to the spot after hearing the hue and cry of Tamanna and caught red-handed him with the money from Barutkhan area. The two other accomplices fled from the spot instantly.”
Tamanna was going to the Brac Bank with his brother by a rickshaw to deposit Tk 2 lakh after receiving the money from Taltala Branch of Islami Bank, the police official said.
Local people handed over the detained policeman to the Police Station, the OC said.
“We are interrogating Sohel Rana in this coinnection. Police are trying to arrest the two other absconding snatchers,” he said.
