A sub-inspector of police of Mohammadpur police station in the capital has been closed for allegedly torturing and blackmailing a Bangladesh Bank (BB) official and issuing him death threat. Biplob Kumar Sarker, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Tejgaon zone), confirmed the incident saying Sub-inspector Masud Shikder was closed on Monday morning. BB official Golam Rabbi had filed a complaint on Sunday stating that Shikder abducted him and tortured him for refusing to give bribe of Tk5 lakh. Shikder admitted detaining Rabbi but denied all other charges. The incident sparked a public outburst and widespread criticism against the police officer in the social media. –Dhaka, Jan 11 (UNB)
