Cop assaulted by ruling party men led by councillor

Staff Reporter :In yet another assault on police by the ruling party men, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Kamrangirchar Police Station has been beaten up allegedly by a group of the local Awami League activists. It was reported that AL-backed councillor of Ward No 56 Mohammad Hossain led the attack on the police member. The ruling party men also torn out uniform of the ASI, and later expressed elation.  However, the police authorities are playing silent role in this regard although the victim filed a general diary (GD) with the Kamrangirchar Police Station in Dhaka. The victim ASI Abdul Motaleb filed the GD on December 2 night, just hours after the incident took place. The GD No is 79. But no one has been arrested in this connection.The incident took place at about 10 pm on December 2 at Jhaulhati intersection of Kamrangirchar. Some 20-25 ruling party men, led by the Ward councillor, joined the attack. Mahbubul Alam Rony, Ashik Babu, Shahab Uddin of the area joined the attack. Local sources, all persons are the ruling party men. According to the local sources, ASI Motaleb along with some other police members were performing duty at the Chan Mosque area at Kamrangirchar. At the time, three suspected youths were passing the area through driving bike in speed race.  The ASI asked the youths to stop the bike. But they were tried to escape. Their bike also hit an old pedestrian. Later, the ASI nabbed the three bike riders and asked them to provide necessary documents of bike and driving licenses. They failed to show these, but they identified them as ruling party men. In that time, they also phoned Ward councillor Mohammad Hossain. The councillor over the mobile phone asked the ASI not to seize the bike. Otherwise, he will take action against the police member. ASI Motaleb informed the matter to his higher authority. After sometime, the ruling party men went to the spot, where the police performing duty there, was assaulted Motaleb. On information, Additional Police members, led by ASI Raihan, recovered Motaleb and others.  When tried for comments, OC of Kamrangirchar Police Station did not receive his phone. On December 3, Solaiman Haque Joarder Selun, MP of Chuadanga and also a Parliament Whip, allegedly led an attack on the Chuadanga Sadar Police Station. The ruling party men swooped on the police station and physically assaulted some police members, including a senior police official. Police on December 3 filed a case against 30 people over the attack.
