Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) is taking initiatives to run the Metro Rail from Kalurghat to the airport at 26 km, City Gate to Shah Amanat Bridge 13 KM and Oxygen to AK Khan Bus stop 14 KM.
City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin was present as Chief Guest at presenting a pre-qualification report on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) on Friday at the conference room of Chattogram City Corporation, CDA Chairman Zahirul Alam Dubash was present as special guest under a consulting firm Resident Engineers and consultants Limited.
Chattogram City is the second largest city, Chattogram Port, commercial capital, economic zone . In order to implement the Prime Minister’s vision, the maximum capacity of the port must be increased.
Stating that the MRT plans for public-friendly public transport, the mayor added that it should have been taken a long time ago. It was good for the city. Now there is a hurdle in building the MRT line for the flyover. If CDA issue No Objection Certificate (NOC), I will take initiative to implement MRT.
He said there are 32 service companies. No one is a competitor. The only city corporation mayor elected. The public expectation is high to the mayor. Therefore, the mayor should cooperate as part of the government.
The mayor emphasized to discussions on all including port, railway on the issue of MRT
Speaking to the special guest, the CDA chairman said that discussions and coordination with all the agencies are needed before the project will begin.
CDA Chairman added that the project that was began would not be right to stop. The port must also be saved. It is the life line of the country. MRT depots should be taken outside Hathazari or Mirsarai .
