Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim asked all concerned to the HIV/AIDS programmes for taking coordinated efforts to prevent HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh by 2030.
“Programmes to fight HIV/AIDS from Bangladesh by 2030 have been continuing and percentage of transmitted disease has been reduced remarkably,” he said this on Thursday while speaking at a meeting on AIDS/HIV Prevention Programmes at his ministry’s conference room.
Health Secretary Sirajul Islam, Director General of Health Department Services Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad and officials concerned were present.
Nasim said there are many programmes under public and private initiatives to prevent HIV/AIDS. “We have to remove misconceptions about HIV infection from common people and discrimination surrounding the AIDS patients,” he added.
The minister said HIV/AIDS programmes in the country are being successfully implemented through joint efforts of all and with the overall support of the common people.
“Awareness on HIV/AIDS issues, risk assessment on HIV/AIDS, correct information and knowledge about HIV transmission has been increased among the common people, which is the positive sign for prevention of the silent killer disease,” Nasim added.
