Speakers in a function here on Wednesday underscored the need for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) by 2030 declared by UNDP to build a happy and prosperous country.
“The stakeholders of the society will have come to forward with the positive attitude and coordinated way to attain the SDGs because it is not possible to implement the SDGs only for the government”, they said.
They made the comments while addressing a function on the formation of district network to achieve SDGs at the conference room of SKS Inn at Radhakrishnapur area under Sadar upazila in the district on Wednesday.
SKS Foundation, a local NGO, arranged the function under the project of enhancing the participation of community based organizations (CBOs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) democratic governance in Bangladesh funded by European Union in cooperation with Centre for Public Dialogue and Oxfam.
Vice principal of Gaibandha Government College Professor Khalilur Rahman, professor Mohammad Ali, civil society member Chuni Islam, social worker Modasseruzzaman Milu and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman addressed the meeting, among others.
Earlier, a power point presentation on the subject and the activities of the district network was made by project coordinator Baharam Khan.
Around 60 members of CBOs, representatives of CSOs and mass media men participated in the function.
