LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Saturday said 8, 26, 728 people have been employed directly and indirectly through different programme of cooperatives in the country.
“There are 1,06, 90,728 members of 57,145 cooperative organizations in the country. The total capital of these cooperatives is Taka 14,054 crore while the value of their resources amounts to Taka 7,032 crore,” he told a function organized on the occasion of the 46th National Cooperatives Day-2017 at the Osmani Memorial auditorium.
State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Md Moshiur Rahman Ranga also addressed the function with secretary-in-charge of the ministry Mafruha Sultana in the chair.
Mosharraf said, “Cooperative is a powerful tool for enhancing economic development in the country. We are giving emphasis on creating cooperators to expand the cooperative movement in the country.”
In order to accelerate economic progress in the country, the government will take steps to strengthen further the cooperative movement for lifting the people out of poverty, he added.
Referring to different development activities coinciding with the cooperatives initiatives across the country, Mosharraf said Milk Vita is upholding its image as a cooperative institution while the project of “One House, One Farm” is being implemented across the country.
He said the government has formulated the Cooperative Societies Act (amendment) – 2013 and the National Cooperatives Polices-2013 to promote cooperative movement in the country.
In his speech, Ranga said the present government has boosted the cooperative sector through patronizing the honest cooperative members and taking strict measures against the dishonest ones.
