More than 250 women and adolescents have come together for cooperative business from different underprivileged communities to eradicate their long-lasting poverty and financial uncertainty at the Gongapur village, in Betdighi union under Fulbari Upazilla in Dinajpur district.
Currently, all of them have become money-makers through paper-bag and cartoon making activities and they attained some knowledge on how to become self-reliant and to contribute to the society to some extent.
“At present, our work pressure has been increased to a greater extent as there is no shop and service-delivery center where the paper-bags and cartoons aren’t being used,” said Jannatun, manager of the cooperative business.
Like Jannatun, left of the members are now passing their sleepless night as their works were enhanced remarkably ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fiter.
Taking advantage of the situation, most of the members of the cooperative are making paper-bags and cartoons along with their family members for some extra income to rotate their family wheels. It is mentionable; they started this cooperative business from last February, 2015.
According to demand of the owners, they make shopping bags and cartoons of all sizes with much sincerity and eagerness.
“We sell 100 bags and 100 cartoons, Taka 300 & 600 respectively. We make 1800 bags & 2100 cartoons per day,” said Jannatun. “First of all, we got training on it with the assistance of World Vision Bangladesh, Fulbari ADP and a loan of Taka 25000 from our own CBO named Betdighi Mohona Mohila Somobai Samity” said by Jannatun. Shopping centers, sweets shop and hotel- restaurant from Fulbari, Parbotipur & Birampur are the main customer of them.
In addition to uplifting their skills, they have learnt the means of eradicating poverty and hunger in the days ahead. ‘We earn Taka 1000-1500 per week and some of the portion, I save in our CBO, with left of money we full fill demand of our children & family’ said by Aktara who is a member of cooperative business.
