Convicted HC official sacked

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain sacked High Court Administrative Officer Md Golam Faruk from the service after he was convicted and sentenced to six years imprisonment in a corruption case.
High Court Registrar Md Golam Rabbani on Wednesday issued a notification in this regard saying that the dismissal of Golam Faruk had been effective from May 9, 2019, the day when a Dhaka Court pronounced the verdict against him.
Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 sentenced Golam Faruk to three years rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 70 lakh 51 thousand and 296 Under Section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004 for amassing illegal wealth. His wife was also sentenced to three years’ imprisonment in the case.
Besides, the court also sentenced Golam Faruk to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 20 lakh Under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004 for possessing property which was not consistent with the known sources.
The punishment of the fugitives will be effective from the day of their arrest or surrender, the judge ordered.
