The High Court has granted bail to three minors convicted accused in the murder case of Rifat Sharif in Barguna.
A two-judge bench of the High Court passed the order on Monday.
Earlier on 27 October 2020, Barguna District Children’s Court Md. Hafizur Rahman has sentenced 14 minors accused in the verdict of the Rifat Sharif murder case.
The verdict sentenced 6 accused to 10 years, 4 accused to 5 years and one accused to 3 years imprisonment. The court acquitted the remaining three accused.
Besides, Barguna District Sessions and Judge Mohammad Asaduzzaman announced the verdict to 10 adult accused in the case on 30 September 2020.
The court sentenced six of the 10 accused, including Rifat Sharif’s wife Ayesha Siddika Minni, to death.
It is to be mentioned that Rifat Sharif was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College on 26 June 2019. The next day, Rifat Sharif’s father Abdul Halim Sharif filed a murder case against 12 with Barguna police station. Rifat Sharif’s wife Ayesha Siddika Minni was the main witness in the case.

The main accused in the case, Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayan Bond, was killed in a gunfight with police on 2 July of that year. On September 1, the police charged 24 people in the case and divided them into adults and minors and filed two separate chargesheets in the court. Of these, 10 adults and 14 minors were charged.
